“On the Map”?
You win the 100k guaranteed on Pokerstars and you have had plenty of decent scores beforehand, are you “on the map”? Just recently Northerngent took down the special 100k guaranteed tournament that is hosted by Pokerstars every night. After a handful of final table finishes of the 100k guaranteed, Northerngent finally hits the big one for $19,000+. Before this score Northerngent has had some scores on Party Poker for 45k+. With nearly $600,000 in prizes and nearly $100,000 in profit, Northerngent seems to be “on the map”.
According to Herschelw, one of the prominent teachers of poker PartTimePoker has, Notherngent is not “on the map”. Hersch agrees that Northerngent is a successful player, but not one that 90% of the online poker world would recognize. Other players like Shuandeeb, Thay3r, PearlJammed, lilholdem954 etc… are names that almost everyone knows. Most likely, the reason that these players are well known is because they play the Sunday Million every week, whether it be a $200 buy in or $1,000 buy in. They play the $200 rebuy and the $100 rebuys. With these bigger buy ins, one can assume that their winnings would be greater. They play the tournaments that have a smaller field and a bigger buy in. On the other hand, Northerngent does not play in these tournaments where he can be recognized easily. He plays in the tournaments with the bigger fields and moderately high buy ins. With Northerngent having a full-time job and a life outside of online poker, it makes it hard to play a large volume of tournaments, especially live.
Hersch’s comment did not mean to bring down Northerngent, he was simply stating that Northerngent is not “on the map” like some other high volume, high buy in tournament players. Some other members on the forum took offense to Hersch’s statement, but to be honest, there was no hostility intended.
Gent comments on the whole thread “I took this as a compliment….“, where originally he posts the blog of the player that he beat to win the 100k. The thread that turned into a whole misunderstanding.
From Northerngent:
And to be honest, I could care less about being on ‘the map’ …who gives a fuck? I play poker because i enjoy it and have had some success…I have a job that I enjoy and that allows me to play a lot of poker. I don’t play poker to pay the bills, or buy stuff…my poker stays separate from my real life
And I don’t put in nearly the hours that the ‘ballas’ put it, but I play as much as i can…
End of conversation, end of arguement.
To be “on the map” one must play big buy ins at a high volume, and be successful at those buy ins. Gent simply does not have the time to be the “on the map balla” type. Here at PTP we will always support Gent because he is one of our “ballas”.
