mattdogg under investigation
Following the drama that took place the past couple days, mattdogg was given investigation gear for his part in shacks return under a second account. Joeker gave mattdogg investigation gear this morning along with a message to matt asking him to close his BAPs and ship money back to investors. Joeker also responded to skill2spare’s accusations of inconsistency enforcing the rules. The distasteful post made by skill calling Joeker a “focking azz clown joke of a site operator” resulted in a shooting off ban.

Thread: My PTP History A Big Thank You To The Site
Posted by terrellk11
” There’s been so much drama recently that I think it’s time to say something nice for once. I’ve been meaning to write this post for a while and today seems as good a day as any to finally write it out. This is going to be long so bear with me.
I have been playing poker for 20 years now, but for 19 of those years I was almost exclusively a cash game player. I had played the occasional MTT when I was bored or looking for a change of pace, but 95% of my play was FR NL.
In the Spring of 2007 (March I think), I had one of my best ever cash sessions taking a shot at 5/10 NL on FTP, making something like $2500 in less than two hours of play. The next morning I decided to play a couple of tourneys to mess around as I figured the big win the day before meant I could take a break from grinding. I joined what I thought was a $11 MTT (can you say bankroll nit?) at 8am only to discover after it started that it was a rebuy. Knowing pretty much nothing about tourney play, I somehow managed to lucksack myself to a win for nearly $4k.
I was instantly hooked on MTTs. Shortly afterwards I joined PxF to start learning more about proper strategy and to improve my play. While reading the strat forums on that site, I met Dapfunk who mentiond that he’d discovered a staking site named Neverbeg and suggested that I check it out.
When I first came to the site it was tiny. It was a big deal to get a stake for $22 and if a MAD stake was posted for a $4.40/180, it got 50 applicants. While most people had a very tough time getting their first stakes on site, I was lucky enough to catch the attention of some people who offered me some low level stakes to get me started on earning some points, with mbendner being my most loyal supporter (four stakes totalling $121 in my first month earning him some money and me most of my first 100 points).
In addition to the stakes I was offered by mbender, I applied for and ran just about every stake I could get my hands on. I even took the huge risk of applying for and running stakes for the gear-master himself, Pmarr (ran two stakes, turned small profits on both, and was rejected from every other stake of his I applied for - I think he was bored with me after seeing I actually followed all the rules and he couldn’t request HOP).
My first big score on the site came about two months after I started on the site. ProBacker posted some cash game heebs for Bugsy and I figured it was a good chance to earn some points and build my repution by focusing on what I new best. I got picked and turned the $200 into $1k relatively quickly.
Despite getting off to a decent start, it was still hard to get chosen for any decent-sized MTT stakes as I just didn’t have the background to justify someone taking a big risk backing me for those types of events. However, at this point I started getting involved in the site in two other ways: (1) I started doing my own staking; and (2) I discovered SO.
With regard to my own staking, it’s funny to look back and see those first stakes I offered for $3.30 to play $1.10 mtts. When I first came to the site, my intention was to be a player, not a backer, but now 18 months later I have nearly 50k staker points and more than $12k currnetly invested. I was lucky enough to be able to get in early on investments in some very good/profitable horses and that prompted me to invest more into other stakes and BAPs. I also discovered some VERY good horses early in their careers on the site that turned into solid long-term backing relationships. The best example of that has to be Daomonk, who I “met” in a thread in SO and decided to offer $11 for a series of small buyin MTTs. He turned a small profit and I gave him a second slightly larger stake that he turned a profit on as well. The third stake, which was for $44, turned a profit of over $500 and prompted me to back him into a $215 WCOOP razz event (which he cashed for another $400+). I’ve backed him for just about everything since. Other examples include guys like jonrubs (who despite being a pain in the ass is a great guy and one of the best horses on the site) and cardsfan04.
While I’ve had my fair share of rollings and losing investments, the vast majority of horses have been respectful of my money and I have continued to return a solid ROI. In addition to getting involved in the staking side of the business, I also began getting involved in the community after finally discovering SO. In all my dealings in SO, I’ve tried to be open, honest and fair. I know that means I sometimes come across as a raging asshole, but I’m ok with that - as an attorney I’ve been called far worse. I’ve grown to care for the site and for it’s members so I do what I think is best for the site even when it means I look stupid in the process. Hell, that’s how I got my nickname (thanks lisa). I’d rather have people pissed at me than sit by and watch something happen that could hurt investors and other members. I also occasionally get on my high horse when I think things in SO get a bit out of control - not exactly a shock.
To be honest, I’m not even sure how I first got started posting in SO, but by posting there I started to meet some of the many people on the site I now consider good friends. I think my reputation for being open and honest is why I was lucky enough to come into contact with so many of these people. I’m not going to get into listing all the people, as I know I’d end up missing some and end up feeling like an ass, but I have to say that SO is where I first met Vedder as that’s an important part of the next step in my PTP journey.
I’m going to pause here as I now have six tourneys going. I’ll continue with Part 2 later in this thread (which will begin with getting picked by Hersch) when I have less running later today.”
“Part 2
Stopped writing because I had six tables running and immediately busted three of them - so back to the story.
When I first joined the site, I remember seeing a stake offered by Herschelw that included coaching from him. One of the requirements for applying was that you had to have at least 100 pp and as I’d just joined I didn’t have enough. I took every stake I could get to try and qualify in time, but I missed by like 5pp and the stake was given to soonline.
Fast forward to December of 2007. Hersch posts a new protege stake in which he’s looking to take on a full-time student. At the time the stake was offered, I had just lost my job and was going through the initial stages of my separation/divorce. This obviously and understandably made Hersch nervous about picking me as it didn’t exactly seem like the most stable environment/situation. However, Vedder went to bat for me and convinced Hersch to take a chance on me and I was eventually chosen as the new student starting at the beginning of the year in 2008.
Where previously I had a hard time getting chosen for stakes for MTTs, being able to say that I’d be working with Jerry made it possible to sell out an 8k bap in less than 24 hours. Within the first week of working with Jerry I FT’d two tourneys with huge fields for over $3k. It took less than two months of working with Jerry to hit my first $10k score, chopping the $55 Daily 50k on Stars for $10,508 on 2/29/08. During the six months I worked with him, I made something like 40 FTs in tourneys with buyins ranging from $11 through $109.
I think it’s safe to say Jerry’s coaching had a fairly substantial impact on my tourney play/results.
My time working with Jerry extended up through the beginning of the WSOP this summer. The friendships I’ve built on the site gave me a place to stay in Vegas while I was there. The success I had during my time workin with Jerry is what made it possible for me to sell out a BAP to go and play several WSOP events this summer. Those circumstances all made it possible for me to be there to have my run in Event 27 this year, to play in the Main Event of the WSOP, and to be on ESPN.
Now this thread may look like a brag post, and if so that’s fine, but that’s not the reason I wrote it. I guess there are several reasons I decided to post:
1. To express my gratitude to the site and it’s members. I’ve had some of the most amazing experienes of my life since joining this site and they simply wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for PTP. The site and its members helped me get through a tough financial/personal time in my life. This site has enabled me to meet good friends, travel, play WSOP, learn MTT strategy from a great teacher, and make a solid amount of money playing and staking and now teaching. The site helps keep poker fun rather than turning into the grind it can so easily become.
2. To remind people what a valuable asset this site is for those who are smart enough to use it properly. I see so many fucking idiots on this site who waste their time getting invovled in all kinds of useless drama, that can’t show proper respect for their investors, or that burn bridges with investors. Setting aside the morality of it, it’s just fucking stupid. How do these people not understand the opportunities that are available on this site? Just 18 months ago an $11 stake was a big deal. A year later the site sent at least a dozen people to play WSOP events with three of them having final tables for scores of 33k, 180k and 230k. Several members were able to get backed for the Main Event of the WSOP. Dozens and dozens of members get to play FTOPS and WCOOP events and I’ve lost count of the five-figure scores that have resulted from stakes and baps here. We have some of the best players online here with more coming every day, including legit pros like Aaron Bartley.
And still people behave like idiots and abuse the system in stupid situations. Guys like shack and stuman were perfectly positioned to be able to play whatever they wanted for as long as they wanted, but they fucked it up by treating people here like shit. The fact that they now realize how badly they fucked up is shown by them both trying to get back on the site, with shack even going so far as to try opening a new account.
Take the time to think about your actions on this site. Realise how lucky we are to be a part of this community and to have the ability to take advantage of the opportunities here. Work on your game. Get involved in the community. Invest in other players. And just don’t be one of the fucking idiots that wastes it.”
