About

The PartTimePoker Blog started off as my personal blog and eventually evolved into more of an addendum to the main Part Time Poker site. PTP is a site with poker strategy, humor, interviews and forums,a long with rake back and online propping listings.

This blog is now primarily intended to be a supplement to Part Time Poker, with updates about new content, news about the site, info on developing projects, and unique content (like commentaries on poker news) that works better in a blog format, although from time to time a bit about me playing may sneak in.

A return, of sorts

By Chris

Last night saw me put in the first full MTT schedule that I’ve played in about two months - maybe three. I haven’t been completely absent from poker - I’ve played some cash and did a good amount of satellite swing and missing around the SCOOP, but it’s been quite some time since I sat down in front of the computer with the intention of playing an entire evening of tournaments.

Monday isn’t a terrible night for it - the Full Tilt 1k sattys offer some decent opportunities and the regular tournaments all seem to run at solid field sizes. I started off with a lot of lower buy in sattys, as I’ve been enjoying that fast pace and relatively brainless play of those lately. It also seems like good prep for the WSOP, as I have to imagine some of the softest spots at the Rio are in the satty area.

I managed a decent performance in various sattys, and I’m looking forward to focusing more attention to that area, especially the math of the bubble, which I know I’m insanely rusty on. I won a seat to the 1k Monday but unregistered as it got closer - it’s a tough tournament and I could feel my attention and focus already starting to wane.

I’ve also been meaning to look into the adjustments necessary for hyper-turbos. Part of me feels like these tournaments are just luck, but the more reasonable part of me knows that they’re just super high-variance, and there’s got to be some strategy for exploiting typical opponents that I’m missing. I especially think this because I’m seeing more than a few satty regulars I know populating even the lower buy in versions of these, so there has to be decent value to be found…

Anyhow, a profitable night and more than a few lessons learned. It’s hard to believe that the WSOP is only 6 weeks away (less, actually). Hopefully I’ve picked the right point to start ramping up my interest again.
